Reflecting back on the first trip that we drove from Wyoming to Canada.
We left Wyoming about 8 in the evening. I took over driving about Thermopolis, Wyoming.
We got to the Canadian border about 8:30 am. and had to wait till the border opened at 9 am..
OF course we were carrying shotguns and large amounts of ammo. So we both were taken to a large room and seperated to opposite corners.
I could here Tom over in his area talking to the nice lady there. Tom always cared genuinely about people. Asking about where she was born, about her kids, all about her as she went through the paperwork for the guns.
They were laughing and visiting. The little gal who was going through my articles was all business and finished post haste.
I then ventured over to where Tom was just about time the whiskey bottle came out of a bag that had clothes and other articles in it.
Tom was telling how he had just returned from a Scottish holiday and that it was terrific whiskey and very special.
The young lady put the bottle on the counter and put the rest of the articles back into the bag. She then started going through more of Tom's things, duck calls, hunting hat, etc.. when Tom asked why she hadn't returned the whiskey to the previous bag.
She proclaimed she was keeping it because of the volume in the bottle.
Tom explained that can't be, he had just brought it back on the plane and all was well. She said, no there is too much in the bottle to be allowed into Canada. Tom then calmly asked her to point on the bottle what level would have been allowable. She took her index finger and put it on the bottle. Tom then put his index finger on the same spot and said thank you. She looked away for a second. When she looked back Tom had releived the bottle of its cap and had proceeded to eliminate the excess amount of whiskey.
Her eyes were the size of silver dollars as Tom put the bottle down. Still maintaining his index finger position on the side of the bottle.
